Simon Belmont and King K. Rool join Smash Bros. roster

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will add King K. Rool and Castlevania's Simon Belmont to its character roster, alongside three new echo fighters.

Among the plethora of information shared in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct were five new character reveals, including Simon Belmont from Castlevania and his echo fighter, Richter Belmont.

Also announced was King K. Rool - making his playable Smash debut after years of fan requests - as well as Chrom as an echo fighter for Roy, and Dark Samus, an echo fighter for Samus.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature 103 stages - not including Battlefield and Omega forms - all of which will support eight-player battles and a Stage Morph feature, allowing stages to change mid-battle.

As for the game's music options, more than 800 music tracks and around 100 other pieces - such as menu themes - are included, providing more than 28 hours of listening, and the My Music feature also returns.

Also announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were:

  • New items including the Banana Gun, Killing Edge, Bomber, Death's Scythe, and Rage Blaster
    Pokémon including Abra, Solgaleo, Lunala, Ditto, and Alolan Exeggutor
  • Assist Trophies including Shovel Knight, Monster Hunter's Rathalos, Star Fox's Krystal, Sonic's Knuckles the Echidna, Zero from the Mega Man X series, and the Moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
  • New and returning modes including Classic Mode, Stamina Battle, Squad Strike, Tourney Mode, Smashdown, and Training
  • A new Final Smash Meter that fills during battle and allows fighter to perform a weaker Final Smash

All five newly announced characters, including echo fighters, have also been confirmed to receive amiibo in the Super Smash Bros. Collection, though no timing for these releases has been confirmed.

Also, in Europe, a limited edition bundle will be available on launch day including a copy of the game, a Nintendo GameCube controller, and a controller adapter for the Nintendo Switch dock.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches for Nintendo Switch on 7 December.
