Sonic Mania to feature two-player Competition Mode

SEGA has revealed that Sonic Mania - which launches worldwide next week - will feature a Competition Mode, allowing two players to go head-to-head across a series of acts.

Each player will be able to take on their opponent as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles over multiple rounds, and can choose how many rounds to play and which items appear in item boxes during the match.

Rather than winning by being the first to the goal, winners will be decided through a number of factors, including clear time, rings collected, items acquired, and rings held at the end of the level.

The mode is available in local multiplayer with a horizontal split-screen, allowing both competitors to keep up with their progress - and their rival's - throughout the match.

Sonic Mania launches worldwide on 15 August for Nintendo Switch.
