Metroid: Samus Returns, a reimagining of Metroid II: Return of Samus for the Game Boy, has been announced for Nintendo 3DS systems.
Announced immediately following the Nintendo Spotlight presentation by Reggie Fils-Aime, Metroid: Samus Returns is a reimagining of the Game Boy classic Metroid II: Return of Samus and is in development by Spanish studio MercurySteam for Nintendo 3DS.
Featuring returning locations and enemies - with some tweaks - Metroid: Samus Returns is a 2D shooter in the style of Metroid II, with new additions such as a Metroid sensor and special Aeion Abilities.
It will also support amiibo, with new Samus and Metroid amiibo launching alongside the game - the existing Samus and Zero Suit Samus amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Collection will also be supported.
A special edition version of the game will be available on launch day, featuring a reversible cover - with artwork inspired by the Metroid II box - and a soundtrack CD with music from the Metroid series.
Metroid: Samus Returns launches worldwide on 15 September.
