Skylanders on Switch to use Joy-Con NFC and digital library

Skylanders Imaginators will be a Nintendo Switch launch title and will utilise the Joy-Con controller's NFC functionality in place of the series' traditional Portal of Power.

Activision has confirmed that Skylanders Imaginators, originally released for systems including Wii U in October 2016, will be a Nintendo Switch launch title and will be available in Europe and North America from 3 March.

Rather than scanning figures to the game using the Portal of Power as in previous instalments, players can use the NFC reader/writer on the Joy-Con R or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to scan them into the game, where they'll be stored for portable use.

A new digital library is being introduced in the Switch version of the game, featuring more than 300 existing Skylanders figures, and enabling players to pick which ones to save and load to the game without having to scan the figure every time.

Launching soon is the Cursed Tiki Temple level pack, featuring a brand-new adventure and, among other characters, a new Sensei called Wild Storm for players to use in the pack.

Skylanders Imaginators launches for Nintendo Switch on 3 March, in a Starter Pack featuring Master King Pen and Golden Queen figures, plus a Creation Crystal.
